The India-Brunei Business Meeting 2025, hosted at the elegant Rizqun Hotel, marked a defining chapter in the growing economic partnership between India and Brunei. Organized by the Indian Economic Trade Organization (IETO), the high-level engagement witnessed the participation of over 100 esteemed guests, symbolizing a shared commitment to deepen trade, investment, and cooperation across various sectors.
The presence of Brunei’s Finance Minister Dato Dr. Amin and Tourism Minister Dato Dr. Hamam elevated the significance of the event, demonstrating the Bruneian government’s strong support for regional economic engagement. Their participation reflected a strategic intent to welcome Indian businesses into Brunei’s dynamic economic landscape and promote reciprocal opportunities.
Adding to the diplomatic gravitas, H.E. Sidek Ali, former High Commissioner of Brunei to India, and H.E. Mohammad Taha were also present, lending their support and experience to the efforts of building robust ties between the two nations.
The event brought together business leaders and decision-makers from a variety of sectors—ranging from education and healthcare to aquaculture, marine services, and traditional medicine. From India, notable figures such as Dr. M.S. Prakash, Trade Commissioner of the India ASEAN Trade Council – Karnataka, and Mr. Nazeer Ahmed Zachriah, President of the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Brunei, played active roles in strengthening commercial understanding and partnership possibilities. Another significant presence was N.M. Panicker, Chairman of Experts United Marine Services, UAE, who emphasized the vast potential in marine and shipbuilding infrastructure. His insights shed light on how India and Brunei could collaborate in advancing Brunei’s marine capabilities, creating long-term value for both nations.
Mr. Lakshmi NSN Venkata of Oxford Medical College & Research emphasized collaboration in medical education and healthcare development, while Prof. Dr. A.V. Srinivasan from the India GCC Trade Council highlighted the growing relevance of Ayurveda and its potential in Brunei’s healthcare ecosystem. Mr. Dawood Sait, President of the Fisheries Department of India, addressed the importance of aquaculture, fish meal, and marine-based trade as a cornerstone of sustainable bilateral development. Mr. Tallam Dwarkanath, Vice President of the Karnataka Chamber of Commerce, underlined the significance of entrepreneurial links and joint ventures as a way forward for India-ASEAN economic ties.
A major highlight of the meeting was the participation of Abdul Subhan Awan, Founder and CEO of Future Technologies AI. Awan, widely recognized for his innovations in artificial intelligence and immersive technologies, added a future-focused dimension to the event. His presence signified the increasing importance of digital transformation and technological collaboration in driving the next phase of India-Brunei engagement.
The gathering concluded with the presentation of Achievers Awards to distinguished individuals who have made outstanding contributions to promoting India-Brunei trade.
