United Diplomatic Council – UDC

On the sidelines of the official visit of H.E. Javier Eduardo Martínez-Acha Vásquez, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Panama, to India, representatives of the United Diplomatic Council (UDC) met with the Foreign Minister and presented him with a copy of the book India–Latin America: The Unexplored Partnership. The publication was presented by Huma Siddiqui, co-author and editor of the book, during a cordial meeting that provided an opportunity to exchange views on India–Panama relations, regional cooperation and the expanding opportunities for engagement between India and Latin America. The Foreign Minister’s visit reflects the growing engagement between India and Panama, with discussions centred on strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, connectivity and economic diplomacy.

As one of Latin America’s most strategically positioned nations, Panama occupies a unique place in global trade and logistics. Home to the world-renowned Panama Canal, the country serves as a vital maritime gateway connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans while acting as a bridge between North and South America. Its strategic location has made Panama an important partner in India’s engagement with Latin America and the Caribbean, particularly in the areas of trade, logistics, maritime connectivity, investment and economic diplomacy.

Published jointly by the Indian Economic Trade Organization (IETO) and the United Diplomatic Council (UDC), India–Latin America: The Unexplored Partnership was co-authored and edited by Huma Siddiqui and Dr. Aparaajita Pandey. The publication explores the vast opportunities that exist between India and Latin American nations across sectors including trade, energy, agriculture, technology, innovation and investment. It also features country-specific insights and perspectives from ambassadors, diplomats and policy experts, offering a comprehensive roadmap for strengthening India’s partnerships with the region.

During the meeting, Huma Siddiqui and H.E. Javier Eduardo Martínez-Acha Vásquez held an engaging discussion on the future of India–Panama relations and the broader opportunities for collaboration between India and Latin America. Their conversation explored avenues for greater cooperation in trade, logistics, maritime connectivity, investment and economic diplomacy, while recognising Panama’s strategic role as one of the principal gateways to the Latin American region.

Commenting on the significance of the meeting, Dr. Asif Iqbal, President of the United Diplomatic Council, said:

“Panama occupies a unique position in the global economy as a bridge between continents and a gateway for international trade through the Panama Canal. As India continues to strengthen its engagement with Latin America, Panama will remain an important partner in advancing trade, investment, maritime connectivity and economic diplomacy.”

The presentation of India–Latin America: The Unexplored Partnership to H.E. Javier Eduardo Martínez-Acha Vásquez reflects the United Diplomatic Council’s continued commitment to promoting dialogue and international cooperation through knowledge exchange and diplomacy. As India continues to expand its engagement with Latin America, initiatives such as this publication contribute to informed policy discussions, stronger commercial partnerships and closer diplomatic ties, creating new opportunities for long-term cooperation between India and the Latin American region.
